Workforce

The Workforce Development program at the EDC coordinates with private and public partners to create a strong workforce system in our county and region. We work to help new and expanding businesses to recruit, hire and train workers to meet the demands of their operation. To do so, we seek to understand a businesses current and future needs. 

A Team Approach to Workforce Development

The EDC works closely with community partners to promote workforce development, deliver training and to facilitate grants and other financial incentives aimed at making workforce development more affordable. 

Through our efforts we are coordinating with public and private partners to create a strong workforce system in Mason County that includes a robust framework for assisting businesses in recruitment, retention and expansion. 

Services Offered

The EDC and our partners help businesses with the following:

  • providing subject matter expertise regarding available workforce programs
  • assists business owners in finding qualified workers through our public and workforce development program partners
  • provides technical assistance with workforce development issues
  • doing direct outreach to business as it relates to workforce development issues
  • provide advocacy back to the deliverers of workforce development services on behalf of business

Our Partners

Pacific Mountain Workforce Development Council

The Pacific Mountain Workforce Development Council (PacMtn) and its Board of Directors are responsible for workforce development in the five county area of: Grays Harbor, Lewis, Pacific, Thurston and Mason Counties. Pacific Mountain‘s workforce system continues to evolve into a cross-regional, demand driven system. Building on strategic alliances and innovative workforce solutions, Pacific Mountain has created a pipeline of skilled and talented workers that are prepared to meet the needs of local employers. In 2010, a significant amount of focus was on two key industry sectors- Energy and Manufacturing-and the development of partnerships. LEARN MORE>

Olympic College

Olympic College Shelton (OCS) is a 27-acre campus located in Mason County. OCS provides a variety of programs from GED preparation classes to vocational, technical and transfer degrees. The campus offers a bookstore, student government office, student gathering area, and state-of-the-art library with classrooms, conference rooms, and office space. Campus support services for students include on-campus educational advising, registration and cashiering, financial aid services, the Career Center, disability support services, adaptive computer lab, classes for students with disabilities, tutoring and GED testing.
